There are Belt Tests Coming up...

March 6th, 2010

Jay Graham (3rd dan) Jeremiah Elmore, Becky Holland, Jacob Layton, Andrew Teague, Jennifer Wang, Holly Leonard, Caleb Pringle and More….

Giant Test

We had an unprecedented nine people test for brown belt and one for purple on October 10th, 2009.  The following people tested and passed their examinations:  Natalie Smith, Amelia Fuelling, Taylor Wedell, Aaron Fuelling, Zoe Flournoy, Chelsea Flournoy, Zach Manship, Jennifer Grover, and Daniel O’Briant all passed for brown while Jordan Roghelia passed her examination for purple.   It made for a long day of testing, but it was worth it.  Congratulations to you all!

Belt Testing!

The after school program got a pair of new yellow belts and a purple belt during the week of October 24th.  Reese Elliott and Austin Hewlett (pictured) tested successfully for yellow belt and Kaylan Sherril (also of the kids class) tested for, and passed her purple belt test.

We have a lot of tests coming up with a slew of white belts about to move up.  Our Kyu numbers should hit 200 before winter starts, which is really hard for me to comprehend.

Congratulations to those who tested and good luck to those who are coming up.

Nerf Camp, Friday October 30th

For the teacher workday, we will be offering a half day of nerf camp starting at 8:00 am and ending at noon.  Feel free to bring your own gun, a friend but be prepared to have a good time.  The cost to come is only ten dollars and a snack will be provided.

Just because I know someone will call...Class is NOT cancelled for Halloween.

Hanshi Perry Seminar!

Sensei Perry gave a great seminar for both our kids and our adults.  We had a pretty good attendance of about fifty spread out between three dojos.

Thanks to everyone who came out and supported this.  Supporting Sensei Maisenhelder during this time is very important to Byron and I.

If you came, then I know that you learned something.

Promotions!

In the past few weeks we have promoted Kyu Grades 197 (Danielle Parks), 198 (Connor Lanier), 199 (Samie Parks) and 200 (Thomas Hesse) to yellow belt.  Hard to believe we have promoted that many people out of white belts.

We also promoted Carol Brown to purple belt on November 19th and eight people to orange on November 21st.  Those included Ron Leonard, Tony Batton, Patrick Holsonback, Dean Burns, Reagan Spivey, Chris Duncan, Jason Wang and Nathan Prewitt.

Congratulations to each of you!  Time to start working on some new stuff!

December 5th, 2009

Testing went well on the fifth as Ronald Genes, Dwight Manship, Dean Spivey and Austin Graham were all promoted to Sho-dan while Amber Elderdice and Leanne Elliott were tested for, and promoted to Sho-dan-ho.

Testing started for most of us at 9:00 and did not finish until almost 3 in the afternoon.  All candidates were tired, hurting and proud of what they had accomplished.  Congratulations to our new black belts!

December Overnighter!

Well, we survived the December 11th overnighter with no major injuries and the dojo still in tact.  As you can see in the picture we had a good showing and I think everyone had a good time.

During the night there was plenty of dodgeball, nerf and other games to be played as well as an on locations version of “bad movie night.”

Special thanks to Aubrey, Terry, Hollywood and Jim for the help in chaperoning the event.  Without you guys, this would have been impossible.

T-Shirt Order

We currently have T-Shirt Order forms at the dojo for shirts that will be ordered on January 9th so all money and such has to be in by then.  They will have our dojo logo on the front and the kanji for “Isshin-Ryu” on the back.  Byron is designing them and handling that so you know that it will look as good if not better than all of the other  shirts he has done for us over the years.

Christmas Party!

Our dojo Christmas Party was held on Saturday, December 19th and was the wonderful, colorful, crowded event that it always is.  Thanks especially to Beth, Robin and Becky for heading it up and to everyone who brought food and just showed up to make this event as special as it always is.

2009 is almost done and it has been a really great year for our group.  Our class pictures are coming up and there are some seminars on the way, so you can believe that 2010 has a lot to offer here soon as well!

We will be travelling to Charlotte for a seminar on February 20th.  The cost for AOKA members is 25 dollars per student.  If you want to ride on the dojo van it will be an additional 10 dollars to help with the gas for the trip.  If you are interested, please sign up at the dojo.

January 30th Belt Test

We had our first big belt test in a while as we tested nine people today for their next ranks.  Sam Flowers and Garrett Powell tested for Yellow belt.  Michael Cable and Connor Lanier tested for Orange while Nathan Prewitt, Hunter Wagner and Christopher Duncan went for Blue.  Dalton Crocker was the senior candidate as he tested for his green belt.

All of the candidates did a good job and in the end, all eight were promoted.  Congratulations to each one and good luck in living up to the new expectations of your rank.
